THE VINTAGE INTERNATIONAL RUGBY LEAGUE COLLECTION

The Rugby League World Cup was the vision of French Administrator Paul Barriere. A form Resistance Leader, awarded the Croix de Guerre and Medaille de la Resistance, Barriere took the flight for League's reinstatement to the National Sports Committee in Paris, despite Rugby Union's opposition.

The first tournament led by the charismatic Barriere was staged in France in 1954. Great Britain wins the inaugural competition, defeating their hosts by 16-12 at the Parc des Princes in Paris.

Australia were hosts in 1957 and defeated France, New Zealand & Great Britain to lift the trophy. In 1960 it was back to the Northern Hemisphere and Great Britain narrowly defeated the Aussies by 10-3 to take the spoils and a spirited New Zealand was too strong for France at Central Park.

In 1968 both Australia and New Zealand staged the RLWC. The Aussies, inspired by the likes of Bobby Fulton, Artie Beetson, Ron Cootem Graeme Langlands and Captained by the legendary Johnny Raper defeated all before them.

The following Ellis Rugby designs are inspired by the great history and individuals from the game of Rugby League Football.
